Thirty four years after The Handmaid's Tale was first published (1985), the sequel is finally here. Margaret Atwood's The Testaments was released on September 10, 2020, amid a flurry of news coverage and interviews. A tidbit from one of the pre-release interviews: Atwood based events in The Handmaid's Tale entirely on historical events, a strategic move that anticipated and countered objections that the story was unrealistic.
